About the Art
What the artist says

Avery’s work explores the history of black women in personal and institutional archives.  She believes that generations can remain in conversation with each other even after some of us are dead.

Why we like it

Avery’s repetitions are not monotonous to us.  Rather, they evoke a pattern of calmness and consistency.

Where we hang it

This work is made up of repetitive patterns.  It would work best solo on a living room or bedroom wall.

About the artist

Avery Williamson

Avery is based in Ann Arbor, MI and her practice involves weaving, painting, drawing, and writing.  Her work explores how gaps in visual, oral and written documentation can inform the storytelling process.

Many elements of my practice are monotonous and obsessive.  I find pleasure in repeated movements and the space that they give my brain to settle down and settle in.
