About the Art
What the artist says

These paintings are constructed similarly to a drum: there is painted canvas stretched across the back of the stretcher bars and then a translucent fabric membrane is stretched over the front that blurs out the painted canvas and creates movement based optical illusions.

Why we like it

Caitlin’s paintings are completely mesmerizing, capturing the viewer’s attention by playing with perspective, layers and movement.

Where we hang it

Paint and process shine on this one: hang it in a minimal, neutral space for a pop of organic color.

About the artist

Caitlin Carney

Caitlin Carney is an abstract painter who makes light and color the central focus of her work. Her paintings contain intimations to landscapes and cloudscapes that are abstracted and made ephemeral. Taking field notes from different hours of the day, she forms a dreamlike archive of fleeting lights. Caitlin received a Bachelors of Art in Communication Studies from the University of San Diego in 2017 and a Masters of Fine Arts from Otis College of Art and Design in 2022. Her work has been shown domestically, in the United States, and collected internationally. She currently lives and works in Los Angeles, California.

My paintings elicit a connection between color and memory that is both romantic and meditative.
