About the Art
What the artist says

Taking on multiple roles of painter, historian and storyteller, Alex reconstructs realities by transplanting subjects into unfamiliar scenes.

Why we like it

Griffin’s vivid colors both complement and contrast the haunting figures and manipulated painterly layers.

About the artist

Alex Griffin

Alex Griffin is a painter living and working in Philadelphia. His recent work is informed by a wide range of influences including 19th century American history, found photos and the natural landscape he documents in the Wissahickon Valley Park. He holds a BFA from Virginia Commonwealth University in Painting and Printmaking and has exhibited his paintings up and down the East Coast.

I build the surfaces of my canvasses with layered narratives that reflect the psychological currents living within those images.
