About the Artist
Madison Greiner
Madison Makala Greiner is a Philly based painter driven by the craftsmanship of traditional painting and the pursuit of narrative emotiveness that can be expressed through color within landscapes. During the lockdown of 2020 she moved back to her hometown. Forced to remain inside, she would look out her windows, into the emptiness of the landscapes that felt both ominous and emotive; she began a series inspired by that duality that continues today.Madison holds a dual degree from both the University of Pennsylvania and the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. She completed her BFA in 2019 and in 2020 earned a painting certificate from PAFA. She has been awarded many prizes including the Raymond D. and Estelle Rubens Award, the Fine Art Venture Fund and the Louise B Sloan Landscape award. She currently works out of her studio in Manayunk, PA.
“These oil paintings largely play off of the color nuances created when painting wet oil atop wet oil, and the transparencies that occur when base colors peek through overlaid paint.”
