About the Art
What the artist saysThis series is inspired by the sense of community invoked by the dinner table. The feeling of being together and the warm glow of good conversation inspires me to place and blend colors like a snapshot in time.
Why we like itLibby captures the essence of the communal table by harnessing the unpredictability of pastels with a delightful color palette.
Where we hang itInject some color into your dinner parties: hang this one wherever you break bread. Or create an impromptu triptych and collect all three works from the “Red Room” series.
About the Artist
Libby Barret
Libby Barret (b. Tyler, Texas) received her BFA in painting from Savannah College of Art and Design in 2020. Inspired by evenings spent with friends and strangers, where food and conversation are shared, she utilizes objects and imagery that function as metaphors, addressing themes of rest, community, conversation and identity. Working across a variety of media, Libby conceptualizes her everyday subjects to evoke a sense of home and community in each piece. She uses photography to capture color palettes and revisits those memories when she starts to draw. “My work showcases the beauty of rest, community and identity, giving space to the viewer and inviting them to rest, using color as a guide for different experiences.”
