What the artist saysThe inherent physicality of oil pastels allows me to prioritize color, light, and texture while permitting finer elements to recede, akin to how a viewer perceives an elaborate costume from the audience.
Why we like itKristine has a unique ability to manipulate a heavy medium like oil pastel into something fragile and delicate, echoing the effortless with which ballet dancers can translate the technical difficulty of their craft.

About the Artist
Kristine Facchetti
From an early age, Kristine Facchetti found the process of making art to be integral to her life and identity, culminating in a BFA degree at UCLA. Shortly after graduating, Kristine shifted her creative focus towards another life-long devotion, a ten year hiatus from painting and drawing to dance ballet. Now retired from this pursuit and based in Los Angeles, she has returned to drawing, primarily in oil pastels, using inspirations from her time as a dancer. Performing in intricately constructed costumes and hand-sewing the ribbons on her pointe shoe shaped her interest in decorative and theatrical textiles. Her work is an homage to the layered textures and functional design, as well as their capacity for transformation through folding, shaping, and pairing.“I translate memories, visions, observations, emotions and thoughts into images on paper, on a lifelong pursuit of crafting a visual memoir, leaving tracks and traces of oneself.”
