About the Art
What the artist saysI am interested in how a flat sheet can hold a sense of depth and movement without describing a recognizable object. The forms can suggest ribbons, folds, or something organic, but I prefer to leave those associations open.
Why we like itThis piece feels organic without being literal. It might evoke geological formations, flowing water, or layers of stone, yet it leaves plenty of room for personal interpretation.
Where we hang itHang this artwork in an entryway above a console table, where its flowing organic forms and subtle color variations introduce a welcoming first impression and an indelible sense of calm and movement into the home.
About the Artist
Cristina Hobbs
Raised in Germany with German and Argentine cultural roots, artist Cristina Hobbs now works from her studio in Sebastopol in Northern California. She studied painting and drawing at California College of the Arts in San Francisco. Informed in part by the coastal landscape around her, Cristina’s work balances deliberate composition with the natural variations of pigment, water, and gesture, exploring color, depth, and movement through repeated bands that gather into ribbon-like forms. Working intuitively, Hobbs allows each mark to inform the next, creating fluid forms that suggest movement and dimensionality. Her broader practice also includes oil painting and ceramics.“Through repeated bands of watercolor, I build forms that seem to fold and turn, exploring how color creates depth and movement on paper.”
